In modern world Information Technology has gained a considerable progression that leads the increasing demand of the IT professionals. Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) the first external degree of Information technology is here to guide you to become a professional who best fits to the necessity of the modern world. Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is offered by the School of Computing of the University of Colombo. This UCSC was established in 2002 and it is the pioneer learning center of computer in Sri Lanka. The curriculum and exams are conducted by the University of Colombo and at the end of the program student can become a graduate of Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) offered by the University of Colombo. Course materials and other relevant materials can be obtained via VLE of the UCSC that has made to offer the guidance for self-studies to the students. However students can get the support for the academic via BIT teaching Institutes registered under the UCSC.

Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) has been designed as a three year degree program and student can complete the program as level basis also. The students who successfully finished the first year are eligible to obtain the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) while the students who successfully completed the second year receive the Higher Diploma in Information Technology (HDIT).

Entry requirements

  • Minimum six passes in General Certificate of Education in Ordinary Level (GCE O/L) with three credit passes including English and mathematics.

Or

  • Any other qualification recommended by the UCSC

And

  • Three passes in General Certificate of Education in Advanced Level (GCE A/L) for new syllabus (After the year 2000) in one sitting or four passes in General Certificate of Education in Advanced Level (GCE A/L) for old syllabus (Before the year 2000) at one sitting.

Or

  • Any other qualification recommended by the UCSC
    Or
  • Pass all the theory parts of the Foundation in Information Technology (FIT) conducted by the UCSC.
